David and Candice Talbot are professional photographers and Videographers with their own business.
While editing a documentary for another African relief agency David Talbot,
(a polio survivor) saw people in Africa whom had survived the disease of polio were terribly deformed and rejected from their community.
We also noted that there were many birth defects, and accidental maimings, as well as crocodile injuries, soil borne worms, and other parasites that afflicted all ages of the population in East Africa.
We knew that in the northern areas near the Congo there were war injuries that would never be properly cared for or operated on. More disfigurement and shame.
We realized that many people in America had a mobility device from a twisted ankle, ski accident or operation that they used lightly and no longer needed. We started seeing them at garage sales, in dumpsters and unfortunately in rolloff containers at landfills. We knew we had to do something.
Thus the idea for Crutches4Africa was born.
We have given away over 8000 devices already but need to get a million over there within 10 yrs. That is our goal.
