COLLECTION: A how to guide.
Please let us know when you plan to start a collection so we can help you with networking and up to date information about collection in your area.
Collection should begin with storage.
One such volunteer in NY is using his basement.

Storage can happen anywhere!
You need to be able to store what you collect until the shipping of your md’s (mobility devices) can be arranged.
Storage comes in many different shapes and sizes.
Seek free storage.
Examples; shed, garage, basement, barn or some similar donated space. All of these forms of storage have been successfully utilized by our volunteers and in all areas of the country.
PATIENCE When you start collecting, it usually starts as a trickle and will build from there. Be prepared to keep mobility devices while shipping is arranged.
Where to find md’s Ask your neighbors, friends and co-workers if they have md’s to donate. Put a listing on Craigslist, in the “wanted” section. Ask at Hospice Facilities, and Nursing Homes.
“WANTED your unwanted crutches” is an example of a heading we have used successfully. Or “KEEP ALUMINUM OUT OF THE LANDFILL, DONATE CRUTCHES AND WALKERS AND CANES TODAY”
This is a very GREEN statement and people really get with that.

One wheelchair at a time
This chair went directly from Denver to a Masai village near Nairobi. Joseph (man on left) says there is much need in his area.

This woman is trying to eke out a garden to support her family. Her limbs are twisted, but she is determined to make a life. Please send a mobility device today.
